London-based jewelry designer Kasia Piechocka has come out with a sleek and modern collection named About the Man Who Loved Fishing. Revolving around the unusual, conventionally unglamorous theme of fishing and assorted equipment (fish-head rings, earrings inspired by fishing weights, fish-hook necklaces, a bracelet resembling a chain of delicate fish bones), this collection turns “unbeautiful” subject matter into a form of elegance and edgy yet spare chicness. Seamless and sharp, these sterling-silver pieces work well in a unisex capacity, and are perfect for those seeking something a bit different as a bold/subtle statement accessory. They are available for purchase from her Website.

Elsa Mora is an amazing and endlessly creative paper-cutting artist. With just sharp knives and scissors, she crafts evocative, entangling scenes (perfect for framing in shadowboxes), vignettes, and storytelling images of incredible detail out of paper, resonant with fairytale whimsy and deep emotion.

Her work has a childlike quality, reminiscent of vintage children’s book illustrations, as well as its trademark unbelievable complexity, intricacy, and attention to detail on a miniature scale; elevating paper-cutting to a whole new level of artistry and expression. It has a darkness and rawness, a visceral quality, often depicting the theme of “the secret anatomy of a young girl” (the title of one of her pieces), showing an internal wilderness of twisting vines/blood vessels, red flowers, insects, and other symbols of nature’s marriage with the anatomy of the psyche in her work.

They bring to mind simultaneously alluring/foreboding fairy tales, personal pain, corrupted innocence, sensuality, the mystery and power of nature, and a sense of playfulness. They do remind me a bit of a paper-cutting analogue of Frida Kahlo‘s paintings, combined with a naturalist aesthetic. They are three-dimensional works of art, violent drops of red against a white background, all rendered in the most lovingly detailed and ingenious way in a fragile and ephemeral medium.

Liza Corbett‘s beautiful watercolors and whispery, precise linework, which seem to have a kind of soft translucency, depicting maidens of yore and mythology, entangled with animals, nature, their own hair, are displaying alongside Jeremy Hush‘s breathtaking work at Loved to Death’s Articulated Gallery (’til the 29th of September).

Also be sure to check out her Etsy shop for original artwork and gorgeous art dolls!
