“In the Trees”: A Twin Peaks Art Exhibition
In the Trees was an art exhibition featuring art inspired by David Lynch’s television show Twin Peaks, for its 20th anniversary. It opened on February 12. These are my favorite works from the show (you can view all of them here):

Ray Caesar – “A Gentle Kind of Cruelty”
Ray Caesar (see my previous post on him here) is currently exhibiting a solo show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, entitled A Gentle Kind of Cruelty.
Images from the show below via Blood Milk, Hi-Fructose, and Arrested Motion. I love the beautiful detail shots taken by JL Schnabel of Blood Milk, which show the true marvelousness and beauty of Caesar’s work as it would appear close-up in person.

Film Review: Enter the Void

2009′s Enter the Void is the third film I’ve seen by French director Gaspar Noé, the other two being Irreversible and I Stand Alone. It’s my favorite of the three. This post is long overdue, as I saw (and was blown away by) it several months ago.
From the very beginning, with its blaringly colorful, garishly flashy, epileptic seizure-inducing opening titles, Enter the Void is obviously striving to do something visually very different and impactive, aiming for sensory overload and trippy, mind-bending experiences. And it succeeds. Destined for controversy and lots of hate due to its graphic sexual content and themes, I think few people would deny that visually, it’s pretty interesting and innovative.

Vintage Dream Photography by Ellen Rogers
Ellen Rogers‘ gorgeous, experimental film photography, reminiscent of 19th-century hand-colored pictures, always makes me feel like I’ve entered an ethereal dreamland that combines the past and the present seamlessly, where beautiful princesses come out of the shadows and mists and lure you. Rogers does everything with analog cameras, film, and darkroom techniques only, with the resulting images being sometimes blurred, overlaid, and having other interesting and charmingly individual effects. Sometimes black-and-white, sometimes with the unreal, super-saturated color of vintage photos, her work is delightful and dreamy and piquant.
