  • The Missing Pieces of Langdon Graves

    10.23.12

Langdon Grave‘s highly detailed, realistic drawings draw you in with their surreal juxtaposition, play on perspective, and stunning virtuosity. These “fragmented” works amaze you with their flawless realism. Take a closer look and you will find new details that further show the delicateness of the pieces and their almost illusive quality and visual layers. She also creates sculptures and installations, which can be seen on her Website.

  • New Realism: The Art of Korin Faught

    07.06.11

Taking cues from classical art (she is a self-confessed devotee of the Dutch master Vermeer), Korin Faught paints beautiful, realistic, and surreal portraits of women, in white dresses and Dutch caps, often in groups or interactions of enigmatic/symbolic meaning; a striking blend of the modern and the traditional, a balance between a crisp and precise style, and an expressive and sharply imaginative quality. I love the whiteness contrasted with the touch of melancholy to the atmosphere and the vague sense of twisted foreboding.

  • Sas + Colin: Sas Christian

    04.07.11

Sas Christian is a painter of portraits of women who are beautiful but also just a bit dangerous or deadly, with their unsettling gaze, focusing unnaturally enlarged, glassy eyes, which are her trademark, on the viewer. Sas is often referred to in conjunction with her husband and fellow artist, Colin Christian (who I will do a post on a bit later). Sas + Colin are an electric duo in the contemporary art scene. Their art shares many similarities, with related themes running through it, but also differs quite dramatically. Below is a sample of Sas’ work.
